The Knicks’ righteously passed on signing Marbury 2.0, and with good reason.
While he would have brought some type of excitement, or whatnot, it would have been a fool’s gold type. Picture the first 10 games or so, A.I. doing and saying the right things, the Knicks winning 3 out of 10 games, all is great in the world. But what when they lose the next 9 out of 10? What then?
Then we can’t bench him. Signing Iverson would have been like cementing a position in the starting line-up; there is no changing him, benchingĀ him, no nothin’. He could not be moved out of the line-up without drama, that’s my word. And, given how much Coach D’Antoni enjoys tinkering with his line-ups, this was bound to happen.
Still, that’s only one side of it. What of our already low-self-esteem mindsets, like in the mental-frailnessĀ of Chandler, the already-injured and already-frozen-out Gallo, or the hungry Douglas that eagerly devours any extra minutes that he gets? Iverson was never one to bring his teammates up, (see Connely in Memphis), what makes you think he would start being a stand-up guy with our motley crew? Really?
A good decision by Donnie, and you gotta admit he milked it for what it’s worth. If for nothing but a week, the attention was turned away from our 1-9 start and onto the cheap dream of Iverson hogging the ball for the next 72 games. Way to go Donnie. You’re obviously as shrewd as I thought you to be. 2010 or bust?
With no one else looking to step up it will be a long season. But at least we take solace in Donnie’s patience just as we must have been high on Adderall to seek comfort in Isiah’s impulsivity.
